Le Costume Historique
Chapters on China & Japan
|Direct Imagination is pleased to announce the release of selected chapters from Racinet's monumental work, Historic Costumes. The beautiful chromolithographs were scanned at full size at 600 dpi. They are also available at various magnifications. We have created a new unabridged English translation from the original French text and both versions of the text are live and searchable on the CD. To supplement the 1888 publication of Le Costume Historique we have engaged Dr. Rosalie Utterbach, former Dean of the Woodbury University's Department of Costume to contribute her vast knowlege and scholarship. She has also generously made available her own collection and describes each item in detail. To our immense fortune we have also located photographic sources for Racinet's lithographs. These antique photographs give us first hand information about the historical work. Last but not least are the vector motifs we have painstakingly re-created for the modern digital artist.
As always, each CD includes all of the art and text from the book in an artist-friendly intuitive browser, buttons for launching the artwork into Illustrator & Photoshop, color manuals, EPS vector patterns, rare fabric swatches and web links to costume sites and resources around the world. Future releases will include all of the Ancient civilizations, including Egypt, Greece, Rome, Africa, Oceana, and the Americas. We are very proud of our newest work and feel that you too will agree that these are our best CD-ROMs yet.
