Studies in Design

Studies in Design was published by Dresser as a series of 20 articles between 1874 and 1876. Each article consisted of one essay and three plates and sold for half a crown. Studies collected 134 of his best patterns, designed over the preceding 15 years in some of his 'best and happiest moments'. Their inspirations ranged from traditional Gothic and Oriental patterns, to organic forms of nature, to the newly discovered colors of electronic discharge tubes. The plates range from simple black and whites to elaborate chromolithographs with 15 printings.

This is a small sampling of the 134 designs in this book.
